Anna Azerli – Pin Up Model & Opera Singer

Anna Azelri lingerie - leather garter belt

Here are some photos for you of Anna Azerli. She loves to wear pin up lingerie and she also sings a little bit. Her education is in opera, but she says she’d like to sing pop. One of my fans, Nikolaj from Berlin, helped me to find these cool photos.

Anna brags about getting the best stockings out there. She says that she buys special ones that cost at least $100/pair. She claims to be Italian, but that’s maybe partially because her first language is Russian. Her single hit was a Russian song dedicated to Mr. Putin, “Marry me, President!”.

Anna Azerli,in one of her shows, said how she  once got kidnapped by mafia for the purpose of gifting her to a narcotics trade king. The cops managed to rescue her in time. She would’ve been quite a present!

Ellen June Hovick was born in the US city of Seattle, Washington in 1911. Two years later her name was changed to Rose Louise Hovick, so that her new younger sister could have the name Ellen June… By the end of her career, Louise, as she was known to family and friends, had become a legendary strip-tease artist,  written two novels, a memoir which was the material for the Broadway hit "Gypsy – a Musical Fable", and a play which was released as the film "Doll Face" in 1946. She was featured in thirteen movies, and nine television shows, including her own San Francisco morning talk show in the 1960’s.

She was known as Louise to her closest, but fans across the USA knew her as Gypsy Rose Lee.

Gypsy Rose Lee burlesque dancer 6Gypsy Rose *rose* to stardom as a saucy burlesque stripper, a career highlighted by a four year stint at the famous New York City burlesque palace known as "Minsky’s".  Her strip shows were the cause of frequent police raids and arrests. Gypsy’s rise to national fame was driven by her quick wit – she was very clever, in fact smart, and always right there with a quick response to a remark from the audience… she would even make intellectual recitations as she stripped. Gypsy Rose got her on-stage "trademark" quite by accident – during a performance a snap broke and her entire dress fell to her feet – the audience loved it and she worked it into the act. Gypsy had a casual and relaxed style of stripping that contrasted with the more common mechanical style of stripping known as "herky jerky".

Gypsy was politically active, and supported the Loyalists during the Civil War in Spain. Her frequent presence at meetings of the Communist United Front made her the subject of an investigation by the US House Committee on un-American activities.  She founded one of the first kennels in the US for breeding Chinese crested dogs.

Gypsy Rose Lee died of lung cancer in 1970, and she is buried in Inglewood Park, California.

Happy Holidays from Fantasy Stockings

My dear hosiery enthusiasts!  I wish you a great holiday season and an opportunity to find some calm time to make goals for the next year.  Have a good one!

*Dear friends, please remember that it is mainly your contributions that make this blog possible.*

What kind of knickers should be worn with a garter belt?

pin up girl in knickers

I absolutely love the authentic pin up girl look with fully fashioned stockings and garter belt and I’d love to re-create that look.

I remember hearing in a talk show that garter belts are not supposed to be worn with thongs, at least authentically.  It makes sense since thongs are a relatively recent invention.

But what kind of panty would one wear?  Or, should I say the British way, what kind of knickers? I would appreciate if someone can send me some ideas.

I am also trying to understand if in the vintage image below garter belt straps are attached to the panty or if the panty is being worn over the belt.  Ideas?

I would really like to do a photoshoot dressed in the most authentic way possible.

Olivia De Berardinis – the art of pinup

As soon as I saw Olivia’s work full of eroticism and sexy lingerie, I knew that I had to mention it on my blog .  I was filled with excitement and I asked her for permission to write about her.  To my surprise, she agreed.

Olivia De Berardinis, born in November of 1948, is an artist from United States who paints pinup girls.  Surprisingly, she contributes monthly to Playboy magazine, presenting her art with Hugh Hefner’s captions.  What a pleasure to know that Hugh Hefner appreciates this kind of work and it turns out that he was inspired by pinup to begin with.

It is a challenge to be a female artist who paints images that are considered to be “male oriented”.  Not everyone gets it and Olivia may be faced with some unhappy feminists.  They just see her as some type of an anomaly.  It all will change, some day, when people become more open-minded.

I invite you to pay a visit to Olivia’s website.  She has a lot of amazing paintings of women, especially women in sexy lingerie like stockings!

What do our readers have to say about this artist?  Here are some wonderful letters I got.

David from Canada

“I think that it’s refreshing to see depictions of women who are unabashedly revealing, and reveling in, their erotic power. These days that just doesn’t happen. The “ideal” modern woman is either the stern fashion model or the strong athlete – pure femininity has become an anachronism. The other thing that the artwork connotes, although implicitly, is the innocent male gaze. The idea that a man can appreciate feminine beauty with out being lascivious, and that women would enjoy that attention, even actively seek it. These days, the “male gaze” is seen as something impertinent, rude and unwanted. That’s what the art evokes for me, nostalgia for a time when sexual chemistry wasn’t so actively squelched. Besides nostalgia, I would also say that the pure sexual and sensual energy of the images is arresting. The lingerie, especially the stockings, creates a dual response: the feminine part of my psyche wonders what it would feel like to wear the clothes, to feel their sensations and to move my body in an alluring way, while the male part wonders what it would be like to touch and embrace the women. One thing is certain, you can’t view the art without feeling a strong and deep reaction.”

David from United States

“I enjoyed studying all the images of Olivia’s that I could find. In her work I see consistent use of fetish and fantasy to portray women as both beautiful and powerful. For me, there is nothing more attractive and than a woman who uses the disarming strength of a man’s fetish to get her way….   a sensual, steamy tango between the hunter and the game …I am most drawn to the many pieces that show women in powerful stances – hands on hips, hips thrown forward, chest out and proud.   Olivia found a husband who shares her passion for fetish art, and she still creates images for Playboy Magazine, with Hughes Hefner composing the captions. “

Spick and Span Magazine – Vintage Lingerie

I am glad to point out that now I own an original copy of Spick and Span thanks to my fan who sent me these scans!  He shipped me the original.  It was a breath-taking experience to hold something that beautiful from the 1960’s.

I also couldn’t believe how real these British pin up girls looked.  They had sincere smiles and regular bodies, not like the cookie-cutter girls these days with a blank gaze in the magazines.

Spick and Span was a British magazine in 1960’s of women showing off their knickers, stockings, and bras.  At that time there was no pantyhose just yet, only stockings and garter belts.  One of my friends from the Netherlands has sent these scanned pictures and I am so pleased to be able to share these vintage pin up photos with you.

You can click on the photos to see enlarged version to read the text.

Besides lovely garter belts and stockings, I am drawn to the fact that these women are real people with a spark in their eyes and genuine smiles.  I am very grateful to get these photos from Spick and Span magazine and to be able to share them with you.

Later Gerard sent me a few copies to treasure!  I keep a Spick and Span magazine that tucked into a picture frame in my bedroom and this is the first thing I see in the morning when I wake up.  I love it!  My favourite photo is of a girl wearing a wreath with a fun story to go along with it.  Maybe I’ll scan it for you some day.
